IN PRESCHOOL


* Seems bright, inquisitive, and creative


* Does not recognize rhymes nor seem to enjoy word games
("Willowby, willowby, Wacob, an elephant sat on Jacob...")


* Often mispronounces words or can't think of a familiar word;
uses baby talk too long


* Has had frequent, more severe than usual childhood illnesses
and/or ear infections


* Has trouble remembering the alphabet, the days of the week,
counting numbers


* Cannot recognize the letters in his or her own name


* Seems disoriented in familiar places (i.e. turns the wrong way
to go out)
